Rules And Regulation

PROMOTION CRITERIA

  • Promotion to the next class depends on the whole year's work, on regular attendance, on the overall development and ability to cope with the next step in the student's education.
  • Any student failing in more than one subject will not be considered for promotion to the next class.
  • Minimum pass marks for promotion is 40%.
  • Only those students with a minimum of 85% attendance of the working days during each scholastic year will be considered for promotion.
  • Absentees at an examination will be considered as having failed.
  • No special arrangements will be made for pupils who for any reason are absent for the examinations and there is no provision for re-tests.
  • The decision of the school authorities will be final with regards to promotion.
  • The school will not retain the answer scripts of the students beyond 60 days from the date of examination.
  • The school will not be responsible for parent's failure to seek the report cards of their children. Report cards are to be collected only by parents, on the Report day.

WITHDRAWALS

  • Application for transfer certificate must be given in writing in the prescribed form by the parent's. A clear month's notice of withdrawal must be given. Normally Transfer Certificates are sent to the parents by registered post after one month along with the security deposit. Refund of security deposit must be applied for by the parent at the time of the student leaving the school along with a pre-receipt duly signed on a Re. 1/- revenue stamp. In the event of withdrawal of a student from the school, all dues must be cleared before the transfer certificate is issued.
  • The application for the transfer certificate and refund of security deposit will be entertained only within a period of 6 months from the date of absence from the school and NOTLATER.
  • A sum of Rs. 50/- will be charged for the transfer Certificate. Normally transfer certificate will be issued within a period of 20 days from the date of the receipt of the application.
  • If the Transfer Certificates is urgently required due to unavoidable circumstances, it may be issued on payment of an additional amount of Rs. 250/- If a student is withdrawn before completing a full academic year, full free for the remaining part of the year has to be paid.

DISMISSALS

  • The School Management reserves to itself the right to dismiss students who continuously fail to make satisfactory progress, in their studies, or whose conduct is in any way detrimental to the orderly life of the school.
  • Students failing twice in the same class, or failing twice in three consecutive years, will not be allowed to continue in the school.
  • Use or attempting to use unfair means in exams/tests/assignments are sufficient cause for dismissal.
  • Smoking, bringing & consuming alcohol or narcotic drugs, disrespect towards the staff, bad moral influence, contempt of authority and willful damage to school property will lead to the dismissal of the student from the school.
  • If fees fall in arrears for more than TWO months from the scheduled date, the student's name will be removed from the school rolls.
  • Students who indulge in political propaganda or who organize fellow students in political factions on the premises of the school or who otherwise engage themselves in party politics are liable to be expelled from the school.
  • Students entering into matrimony while studying in this school will have to leave the school before any such act.
  • The wards of those parents/guardians who obstruct the smooth functioning and vitiate the academic atmosphere of the school through their act of omissions and commission shall be liable to be dismissed from the school.

FEE RULES

  • The schedules of tuition fees for the academic year can be obtained form the school office. Parents may pay the entire fees, if they so desire, at the beginning of the academic year. School fees can also be paid in 6 equal installments as per schedule without fine, with affine of Rs. 20/- till the end of the month and with a fine of Rs. 20/- for every succeeding month. Drafts drawn only on State Bank of India, Binnaguri, and Central Bank of India, Gairkata or Birpara are acceptable. No cheques will be accepted.
  • If fees fall in arrears for more than Two months from the schedule date ,the student's name will be removed from the school rolls and no re-admission may be granted. Re-admission will be entirely at the discretion of the management and in case of re-admission, fresh admission fees shall be paid before admission, along with the arrears of fees, including the fine.
  • Students who have not paid up their dues to the school during any particulars term will not be allowed to sit for the terminal examination. No fee except the caution deposit , once paid will be refunded under any circumstances.
  • The school fees may be increased during the school Academic Year in case of any unforeseen circumstances and 5-10% increased in the tuition fees in normal.
  • The school acknowledges every payment made to it by a duly signed receipt and parents are requested to make sure that they receive proper receipts for every payment they make and the school will not be responsible for payment made without proper receipts.
  • The details of fees and school uniform will be issued on confirmation of admission.

LEAVE RULES

  • Pupils who are absent on the first day or last day of any term or who are away from the school for ten consecutive days without permission will have their names removed from the school register and will be readmitted only if there is a vacancy and on the payment of the usual admission fees.
  • In case of leave of absence, prior permission from the principal should be obtained except in case of unforeseen circumstances for which an authenticated reason should be furnished by the parents or guardians. However, granting leave is entirely left to the discretion of the principal.
  • Absence from school must be supported by a leave letter from the parent/ guardian of the students. If absence on account of illness that lasts for more than three days, the application for leave must be made to the principal accompanied by a medical certificate from a registered doctor, approved by the school.

RULES OF DISCIPLINE

1. Disobedience.
2. Destroying/Disfiguring school properties.
3. Writing in the desk/bench/toilet etc.
4. Fights/ using abusive language.
5. Using any kind of pan parag/Gutkha etc.
6. Robbery/ theft/cheating.
7. Bringing CD/ Mobile/ any other unwanted materials.
8. Forging Signature.
9. Habitual absence/irregular homework.
10. Bunking from school/class etc.

GENERAL RULES

  • Punctuality and regularity in attendance, proper dress, an earnest effort in homework, assignments and gentlemanly behavior in and outside the school are always insisted on , and on all these matters the parents co-operation is expected at all times.
  • Pupils are strictly forbidden to bring objectionable literature into the school or to purchase any article of food from unauthorized dealers at or near the school premises.
  • Pupils are not allowed to leave the school premises without the written permission of the principal/Headmistress.
  • Damage to school property, however small will not be condoned .Stringent disciplinary measures will be taken against such offenders. Parent/guardians have to bear the fine and expenses of the damaged property.
  • Loitering on the way to school or while returning home is totally discouraged.
  • Students are answerable to the school authorities for their conduct in and outside the school. Hence, any misbehavior inside school and in public places outside the school and conveyance will warrant serious disciplinary actions initiated by the school authorities.
  • On their way to and from the school students must remember that the school is judged by the conduct of its students. Students should greet the teachers of the school when they meet them. Thus, every pupil is urged to contribute to the high tone moral and social discipline of the school by his/her manners and deportment.
  • Hands in pockets, slouching gait, untidy dress, dirty shoes, being unwashed andin the case of senior students unshaven are misdemeanors. Courtesy to staff, visitors and fellow students is expected at all times.
  • While on campus ,students are strictly forbidden to talk to, or entertain parents, friends, visitors etc. without the prior permission of the principal.
  • On school days and at all school functions pupils must wear the prescribed uniform and the uniform must be neat and tidy.
  • St.James school, Binnaguri is an English Medium School and therefore all students and members of the teaching and school office faculty must converse/ communicate in ENGLISH while inside the campus and school bus.
  • Every pupil must take part in physical training and games unless declared unfit on medical grounds by a competent authority and exempted by the principal. Students are forbidden to join any outside sports organization without prior permission of the principal.
  • Use of mobile phones, i-pods and other electronic gadgets are not allowed within the school premises.
  • Smoking, chewing pan masala, gutkha are not allowed.
  • Ragging is strictly forbidden; anyone indulging in any form of ragging will be severely dealt with.
  • Yellow card is serious official warning to the offender and his/her parents. Two yellow cards will warrant to one red card. One who gets a red card will be dismissed from the school. One who gets an yellow card is not eligible for any important position in the school. Parents are expected to meet the principal as soon as they receive an yellow card.
  • In order to inculcate higher moral values in our pupils without using corporal punishment, we have implemented a system by which we consider every child is good so we award 50 marks to everyone at the beginning of the each term which will be added to their Moral Science marks. However, if anyone is proved to be defaulting, any teacher of the school will be at liberty to deduct marks according to the nature of offence under the following heads :
  • While every care be taken to prevent accidents, the management will not be liable for injuries and accidents sustained by the pupils in the course of everyday activities.
  • The school cannot be held responsible for the security of the pupil before and after the school hours.
  • The school is not responsible for goods lost. Therefore, it is not advisable to bring valuable articles like expensive pens, watches, gold, ornaments etc to school.
  • No fine of any kind or collection (cash/kind) for any purpose, whatsoever, may be made without the prior permission of the principal.
  • No parents and/or guardians or pupil is permitted to engage any of the teachers of St.James School as private tutor.
  • Gifts and any form of appeasement by parents and/or guardians to any members of the teaching and non-faculty members is strictly prohibited in St. James School.
  • If a teacher by speech or otherwise seeks to mislead his/her students to activities deemed objectionable, he/she is liable to be punished for misconduct.
  • The student's behavior during entire period of schooling will determine the nature of the Character Certificate Transfer Certificate issued to a student when leaving the school.

IMPORTANT NOTES TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS

  • The School Wishes to inform the parents that every school is basically a democratic institution and hence St. James School observes no protocol or preferential treatment. We wish to get your willing co-operation in this regard.
  • Parents are requested to bear in mind that the school attaches great importance to building of sound character in pupils. Therefore, they are expected to co-operate with the school authorities by making their children understand that a well ordered and disciplinary way of life is as much important at home as in school by seeing that they prepare their lessons and take an active interest in the activities of the school.
  • Parents are hereby informed that occasional reports from the teachers are made in the school diary. They are requested to sign them as proof that they have read them.
  • Parents are requested to sign the Report Card any other document relating to their children when requested. The school will not be responsible for parent's failure to see the Progress Reports of their Children.
  • If a pupil is likely to be ill for a long period of time the Principal must be informed in writing as early as possible. Children suffering from any infectious disease should not be sent to the school till the danger of infection has passed and they are medically certified as fit.
  • When communicating with the Principal or the Headmistress, parents are requested to mention in their letter the name, class, section and admission number of their ward/s.
  • Complaints if any, may be addressed directly to the Principal/Headmistress and not to the teachers.
  • The school maintains a suggestion box outside the school office.
  • Parents are welcome to visit the school. However, parents are not allowed to interview teachers or meet their ward/s, or take them home during school hours without the prior permission of the Principal or the Headmistress. In all such cases parents are requested to make prior appointment with the school office either over the phone or through a letter sent through their ward/s.
  • Rail concession voucher may be used for students of the school travelling from Binnaguri to their hometown and back. If they are misused the school will not be responsible. Concession should be applied for three weeks prior to the closing of the school and application for railway concession voucher will not be accepted during the holidays.
  • With regard to any dispute only Court and Tribunals having jurisdiction over Binnaguri and not any other place, shall have jurisdiction for the purpose of filing a suit.
  • The Educational Society of St. James School, reserves the right to close down or dispose off in whole or in part any of the Institutions or activities whether educational or charitable as the Governing Body many deem fit. No claim can be made on the school for such action.
  • Although a parents forum is not required by the rules applicable to Anglo-Indian Schools, yet for better interaction and fostering academic interest of the students and the interest of the school, a broad based Parents Forum comprising of well-intentioned parents nominated by the class teacher of each class is constituted for every academic year. There is no place for any other forum.
  • St. James School is managed by the society of the Brothers of St. Patrick, India through its Governing Body and all decisions of the Governing Body regarding the management/running of the school are final.

    UNIFORM

  • The uniform which consists of the following is compulsory for all students from Std. I to class XII except Nursery & K .G.
  • FOR SUMMER : BOYS grey trousers (Mayur quality no. 7043, shade no. 178) and sky blue shirt (quality no. 516, shade no. 124),school tie, school belt, Blake shoes and grey nylon socks with two sky blue stripes, white patka for sikh boys(KG to class II half pants).
  • For GIRLS grey skirts, pleated (Mayur quality no. 7043, shade no. 178) and sky blue shirt (quality no. 516, shade no. 124), school tie, school belt, black shoes and grey nylon socks with two sky blue stripes. Grey stockings with grey skirts & white stockings with white skirts are allowed as part of winter uniform.
  • FOR WINTER : A Navy blue blazer with school crest is compulsory for all the students, In addition to the above, those who prefer may wear sleeveless/ full sleeved V-cut pullovers with the school crest.
  • SHOES : Black Shoes model Prefect from Liberty for both boys and girls.
  • P.T. UNIFORM : On Fridays full white uniform is to be worn along with canvas shoes by Liberty / Bata. House T-shirts are to be worn by all students on prescribed days. All the above mentioned uniforms will be available in the school store.
